However when his mother re-married, he decided to legally adapt his stepfather’s last name, “Stone”. Irving was only seven when his parents Charles Tennenbaum and the former Pauline Rosenberg separated. Some of the best sellers include: The Agony and the Ecstasy (1961), Lust for Life (1934), The President’s Lady (1951). He was an American-born writer, known well for his classical biographical novels featuring eminent artists, statesmen and intellectuals.
